Self-Drive Suggested Itinerary
Hobart → Port Arthur → Bicheno → Freycinet National Park → Launceston → Cradle Mountain → Hamilton
DAY 1: HOBART – PORT ARTHUR (95km/1h30m)
Upon arrival, collect your car and proceed to Port Arthur. Port Arthur is the most intact and evocative historic prison in Australia. You can join a guided tour with an experienced and knowledgeable guide, or follow your own inclinations and explore the site at your own pace. By night, if you are brave enough, you can explore and learn about its ghosts on a lantern-lit tour. First, have dinner at Felons restaurant and then head out for the 90-minute experience.

DAY 2: PORT ARTHUR – BICHENO (222km/3h)
This morning, drive to Freycinet National Park. Freycinet Peninsula is one of earth’s magical places. Pristine beaches with water so clear you can see the fish swimming, unspoilt bushland with its fragile wildflowers backed by unique pink granite mountains, native animals and birds including whales and dolphins. Mention Coles Bay, Wineglass Bay, and Freycinet National Park to a Tasmanian and you’ll see eyes light up with thoughts of fishing and boating, bushwalking, sea kayaking, rock climbing and spectacular coastal scenery. Continue on to Bicheno, where you can do the night Penguin Tour.
DAY 3: BICHENO – LAUNCESTON (160km/2h)
Take a leisure drive to Launceston. In the afternoon, drive up north to the picturesque Beauty Point to explore Seahorse World and Platypus House. Tasmanian platypuses and asmanian echidnas are unique and cannot be seen anywhere else in the world. Platypus House offers a once in a life time opportunity to watch both creatures in the daylight and under cover! Embark on an educational tour experience through a fascinating aquarium dedicated to the preservation and conservation of the Seahorse. The Wonders of the Southern Ocean aquarium featuring various bizarre marine species of the wild southern seas including weedy sea dragons, sharks, giant cuttlefish, aquaculture species and a touch pool for the kids.
DAY 4: LAUNCESTON – CRADLE MOUNTAIN(150km/2h)
This morning, start your journey to Cradle Mountain. On the way, stop by at Melita Honey Farm for some free honey tasting and ice cream, or watch a Queen Bee lay her eggs in the honeycomb. At Cradle Mountain, check in at your hotel followed by a visit to [email protected] in the afternoon. [email protected] located just 500m front the Cradle Mountain National Park entrance. You can join one of the Keepers tours which operates daily: 10.30am/1.00pm/3.00pm - approximately 45 minutes long.

DAY 5: CRADLE MOUNTAIN – STRAHAN(165km/2h)
This morning, continue your journey to Strahan. Strahan, which includes Macquarie Harbour, Sarah Island and the Gordon River cruise, can be described as one of the most unique places in Australia. Strahan is located on a spectacularly beautiful harbour at the end of the world. A short drive from Strahan is the famous Ocean Beach with a huge expanse of sandy beach and views of the Southern Ocean. Perhaps join Gordon River Cruises to experience Tasmania’s World Heritage wilderness.
DAY 6: STRAHAN – CURRINGA FARM AT HAMILTON (222km/3h)
Today, travel through The Tasmanian Western Wilderness. Prepare to be transformed by the pristine wilderness of memorable world heritage landscapes - where around every hidden river bend and over every misted mountain top, secret moments are waiting to reveal themselves to you. End your day at Curringa Farm - a genuine 750 acre, award winning, sheep and cropping farm, close to Mt Field National Park on the main highway to the West Coast. Curringa Farm offers excellent accommodation. Enjoy organized farm tours or cook your own barber-pack beside beautiful Lake Meadowbank, ideal for fishing and swimming.

DAY 7: CURRINGA FARM – HOBART
If you arrive on a Saturday, head to the waterfront for the Salamanca Market. Next, it’s the Coal River Valley and award-winning wines with lunch in a vineyard restaurant. In Richmond, cross Australia’s oldest bridge, visit galleries and antique shops. Back in Hobart, compare flagship and craft beers during a tour at Cascade, Australia’s oldest brewery. Wander from Hobart’s waterfront precinct to Salamanca Place and Battery Point and dine on fresh local seafood.
DAY 8: HOBART – SINGAPORE
