Self-Drive Suggested Itinerary

Adelaide → McLaren Vale → Kangaroo Island → Victor Harbour → Hahndorf → Barossa Valley

Singapore – Adelaide - McLaren Vale (Approx. 40km/ 50min)

Upon arrival, collect your car at the airport. Drive down to Fleurieu Peninsula, south of Adelaide, which encompasses spectacular beaches, rolling hinterland and famous wine country. Enjoy wine tasting in the renowned McLaren Vale wine region and with over 60 cellar doors to explore, there is no shortage of places to stop. Some of the most popular wineries include Wirra Wirra, Coriole, d'Arenberg, Penny's Hill and Chain of Ponds. Visit the Almond Train for almonds of every flavour and Medlow Confectionery for something sweet. If time permits, discover the fine mix of food and art at Red Poles.

McLaren Vale – Kangaroo Island (Approx. 172km/ 3hrs30min)

Drive down to Cape Jervis this morning, to take your passenger/car ferry to Kangaroo Island. Upon arrival to the island, drive to Seal Bay Conservation Park on the southern coast. Here, join a guided tour on the beach and have an experience of a lifetime walking among a breeding colony of Australian Sea Lions. Head to Little Sahara, an area of spectacular white sand dunes, surrounded by bush vegetation. Take your sandboard and climb to the top of the razorback ridges and enjoy a thrilling ride to the bottom (sandboards and toboggans are available for hire from Kangaroo Island Outdoor Action at Vivonne Bay). Next, visit the dramatic coastal formations of Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch in Flinders Chase National Park. Remarkable Rocks provide a spectacular backdrop for photographers and Admiral's Arch boardwalk leads to a rugged cliff face to confront a spectacular rock arch and a nursery haven for New Zealand Fur Seals.

This morning, drive through the centre of the island. Don't miss sampling the unique gastronomic experience at Andermel Marron and Two Wheeler Creek Wines. Visitors can take a tour of the modern fish farm and select a marron of their choice to be cooked by the café’s talented gourmet chef. Complete the meal with a fine wine, are made from grapes grown on the farm's vineyard. Next, join a one-hour, half or full-day excursion from Kingscote with Kangaroo Island Marine Tours. Go snorkelling with seals, sea lions and dolphins. Soak up the fun and meet the marine life on the comfortable, purpose-built craft. Should time permit, view the pelican feeding at the Kingscote Wharf where 'The Pelican Man' gives a lively informative talk while feeding the birds at 5pm daily.

Kangaroo Island – Victor Harbour (Approx. 160km/ 3hrs20min)

Head down to Penneshaw for the ferry back to Cape Jevis, continue your journey towards Victor Harbour, and ride on Australia's oldest horse-drawn tram along the causeway to Granite Island. Visit the penguin centre and at dusk, join a guided tour to see these little penguins returning to their burrows after a day's fishing. During June to September, Southern Right Whales can also be spotted close to shore along Victor Harbour.

Victor Harbour – Hahndorf - Barossa Valley (Approx. 184km/ 2hrs50min)

Head north today, and travel to the historic Germanic village of Hahndorf and spend time exploring its heart and laneways. Enjoy a divine German meal in one of the many cosy cafés. On the main street visit Udder Delights for local cheeses, The Olive Grove and Taste in Hahndorf - home to an array of local products, including German-style small goods, fruits, cheeses and confectionery. Continue on to Barossa Valley, it is one of Australia's oldest wine regions with more than 170 years European settlement history, you will experience much of this heritage in many the museums, historic places and natural wonders. The Barossa Heritage Trail links many of these sites and is a key to unlocking the region's heritage secrets.

Barossa Valley – Adelaide (Approx. 78km/ 1hr5min)

Drive back to Adelaide this morning, visit the Adelaide Central Market (open Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays), which is the largest food and produce market in Southern Hemisphere, or take a behind-the-scenes tour at Haigh's Chocolates Visitors Centre (11am, 1pm & 2pm). If time permits, find out more about the Aboriginal culture by joining a Bush Food Trail tour and enjoy Bush Tucker in the city. Stroll through the Rundle Mall shopping precinct for both department store and boutique shopping. This evening, dine along any number of Adelaide's 'eat streets', such as Gouger Street, Rundle Street and Hutt Street in the city, and O'Connell Street and Melbourne Street in nearby North Adelaide.
