7D Cape York Frontier - Cairns to Cairns

Your adventure begins on the coastal route to the Daintree Rainforest. Cross the Daintree River via a cable ferry to Cape Tribulation, then hop onto a 4-wheel drive and race along Bloomfield Track (conditions permitting). Cross the wilderness of Bloomfield River near the Aboriginal community of Wujal Wujal before visiting Lion’s Den Hotel. As you continue to Cooktown, pass through Black Mountain and the mass granite boulders the park is known for.

Travel through the agricultural district of Lakeland to Quinkan Country. Inscribed on the Australian National Heritage List, it is where one of the smallest Aboriginal communities co-exists. Situated in the Laura Basin, it is home to one of Australia’s major sites for rock art. Explore the sites and continue to Lakefield National Park – home to a prolific number of crocodiles in the various waterways of the park. End the day at Musgrave’s century old Telegraph Station.

Cross the Great Dividing Range to visit Coen Town. With gold being discovered in the Coen River in 1870s, the town became a centre for several small gold mines in the region. Next, cross the Archer River towards Weipa – a bauxite mining town. Enjoy the scenic wonder of a sunset over the Gulf of Caprentaria.

Use the day to its fullest as you explore the town of Weipa or join a Wildlife Eco River Cruise at your own expense. In the afternoon, check into a cattle station in Bramwell for an authentic outback experience.

Head north along part of the Old Telegraph Track to Fruit Bat Falls for lunch. Relax, swim, and enjoy this unique area with its enchanting waterfall. Cross the mighty Jardine River by cable ferry, then travel on to the northern-most settlements on mainland Australia.

Stand at the very top of mainland Australia. Then visit Somerset (conditions permitting), once the home of the famous Jardine family. Lunch will be at palm fringed Anchorage Beach overlooking the Albany Passage.

Cruise to Thursday Island, one of the many small islands along the Torres Straits for a guided tour. Next, transfer by ferry to Horn Island and board your flight. You’ll fly over the Great Barrier Reef to Cairns Airport for your departure flight.
