7D ChongQing & Yangtze River

Arrive at Chongqing, the largest municipality in southwest China, situated at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers. 

Visit Hongya Cave, featuring a traditional-styled stilted complex built against a mountain. Then shop along Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street. From there, take a round-way trip on the Yangtze River Cableway. Next, stroll along Ciqikou Ancient Town, lined with local art shops, snack stores and old-styled tea houses. In the late afternoon, board a Yangtze cruise (3-night stay). The cruise departs from Chaotianmen Pier.   

Located on the Ming Mountain, Fengdu county is known as ‘Ghost City’. The place is a complex of shrines and temples dedicated to the afterlife. Popular landmarks in Last Glance at Home Tower, Nothing-to-be-Done Bridge, and Ghost Torturing Pass. In the evening dock at Zhongxian Port (optional: visit Shibao Village or watch the Three Kingdoms live performance).

In the morning dock at Fengjie Port (optional: tour Baidi City). Then pass through Qutang Gorge, the first of the Three Gorges. This is the shortest, yet most magnificent gorge. Next, board a smaller boat to pass through Wu and Xiling Gorge. The most distinctive scenery along the Wu Gorge is the Twelve Peaks of Wushan; Xiling Gorge is the longest of Three Gorges, zigzagging approximately 79km. 

Visit Three Gorges Dam, the largest hydro power project in the world. Disembark the ship at Yichang and ride a coach to Wudang Mountain in Shiyan (~5hr).

Tour Wudang Mountain, a Taoist centre renowned for its ancient architecture set against the peaks and ravines of the mountain range. The mountain is also known as the birthplace of Wudang martial arts. Take a cable car to the Golden Summit. Then visit the Golden Palace, Nanyan Temple and Zixiao Temple.    

Head to Yichang (~5hr by coach) then take a high-speed train (~4.5hr) to Chongqing and transfer to the airport for departure.
